The action follows murder of a convict on November 21.
"Raipur Central Jail superintendent Rajendra Gaikwad was suspended for failing to maintain discipline and control in the jail premises," Director General (Jail) Girdhari Nayak told PTI.
A joint team of Raipur district administration and police today conducted a surprise inspection of the jail during which every barrack was searched, he said.
Banned items such as improvised sharp-edged weapons and sedative drugs were recovered from barrack no 1 to barrack no 12, Nayak said, adding that subsequently the superintendent was suspended.
