"Jamoh will always be remembered by all Indians for his bravery. He fought against the British and killed Dr Noel Williamson," Supriyo said yesterday during the programme at Yagrung village, the birth place of Jamoh, as part of the 70th anniversary of India's independence.
During the programme, Supriyo said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Union ministers, MPs and party workers to highlight the contribution of unsung heroes, freedom fighters and martyrs among school children during the fortnight-long celebration 'Yaad Karo Qurbani', an official statement informed here today.
Supriyo along with Pasighat East MLA Kaling Moyong and others reached Yagrung village participating in a Tiranga Yatra motor cycle rally, the statement said.
In a memorandum, the 'Adi Baane Kebang', organiser of the programme, urged the Centre to give official recognition to other accomplices of Jamoh who also took part in the assassination Noel Williamson in 1911.
ABK Vice-President Tony Pertin also asked for according recognition to other unsung heroes of Adi tribe who lost their lives in the three Anglo-Adi wars that took place in between 1858 to 1894.
