Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala today slammed the Madhya Pradesh government over the highest number of rape cases and overall crime scenario in the BJP-ruled state.
"A total of 46,308 rapes had taken place in Madhya Pradesh from 2004 and 2016, which was the highest in the country," he told reporters here.
Citing the Sample Registration Survey (SRS) report of 2017, Surjewala said the infant mortality rate in Madhya Pradesh is highest at 32 per 1000 children.
"This reveals that 61,000 neo-natal deaths (death within 28 days of birth) take place (annually) in the state," he claimed.
According to a Union Home Ministry's report, 8,503 children, including 6,037 girls and 2,466 boys, go missing every year from the BJP-ruled state, which is again highest among all the states, he said.
In a veiled attack on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, known as "mama" (maternal uncle), Surjewala said the Congress will trap the mama in a "chakravyuh" during the assembly polls, due later this year.

"There were two mamas in ancient India--Shakuni and Kans. We are going to trap this mama in the chakryavyuh like Abhimanyu (of the Mahabharata)," he said.
Referring to the BJP's stint in the state since the last 14 years, he said, "Mama is doing 'maja' (enjoying) in Madhya Pradesh at the cost of the people".
He said the condition of farmers was not good in Madhya Pradesh.
"Farmers are receiving bullets instead of relief," he said in an apparent reference to the death of five farmers in police firing in Mandsaur district in June last year.
