Survey for Jammu-Poonch railway line underway: Abdul Haq

Jammu and Kashmir government today said the Northern Railway has taken up the survey for a new railway line to connect the border district of Poonch with rest of the country.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq on behalf of the Minister in-charge Planning and Development department informed the Legislative Assembly that efforts are being made to collate Poonch with rest of the country through a railway line.
The Northern Railway has taken up the survey regarding construction of new BG lines from Jammu to Poonch via Akhnoor and Rajouri, Haq informed.
The Minister was replying to a question raised by Shah Mohammad Tantray in this regard.
The Minister said the state government has taken up the matter with the Union Railway Minister and pursued it with the Ministry concerned for expediting the process of survey and starting the work as early as possible.
Raja Manzoor raised supplementary question and urged the Government to approach the Union Railway Ministry for extending the railway line from Baramulla to Kupwara.
