CPI-M leader Sushanta Ghosh, who is being tried in connection with the skeleton recovery case, was today slapped in a local court here by a man who claimed that one of the skeletons dug out from near his (Ghosh's) ancestral home in Benachapra village was of his son.
Ghosh was speaking to mediapersons outside the chief judicial magistrate's courtroom when Manoranjan Sing, father of Swapan Sing who had gone missing several years ago, walked up and slapped him on the left side of his face.
Police present at the spot separated the two men and detained Sing.
Police, however, said Ghosh was not hurt. Sing was angry as he felt that one of the skeletons found near the leader's home was that of his missing son and had therefore attacked him.
While Ghosh alleged Trinamool Congress conspiracy against him in the incident, the ruling party denied any role in it.
At least eight skeletons had been dug out from Benachapra village in West Midnapore district and Ghosh had been arrested in connection with it in 2011. He had been granted bail by Supreme Court and today he is scheduled to be present at the CJM's court for the case.
