Haryana government today approved a proposal to allot land in Sonepat district to Olympian medallists Sushil Kumar and Vijender Kumar to set up academies for wrestling and boxing in the state.
The state cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, took the decision to allot land on lease in Motilal Nehru School of Sports in Rai in Sonepat district, an official spokesman said.
Five acres of land would be alloted to Sushil Kumar Foundation for setting up a world-class Wrestling Academy and three acres to Vijender Kumar for setting up Boxing Academy, the spokesman said.
The rate of lease would be Rs 35,000 per acre per year and period of lease would be 33 years at the first instance. Also, 50 per cent seats would be reserved for the domicile of Haryana for admission to the Wrestling Academy, the spokesman said.
The cabinet had decided to allot eight acres of land to Sushil Kumar Foundation last month, but the foundation then responded saying it would require only five acres.
