Congress MLA from Solapur Praniti Shinde Tuesday said the nominees of the BJP and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) stood no chance in the Solapur Lok Sabha constituency against her father and former Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde.
A triangular contest is on the cards in Solapur where Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh leader Prakash Ambedkar, the nominee of the VBA, and Jaisiddeshwar Swami of the BJP are in the fray along with Shinde, a former chief minister.
Shinde had lost to BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
"My father is the only secular candidate in the fray. He is pitted against the fascist RSS and AIMIM-minded candidates," Praniti told PTI.
Singling out Ambedkar, she said it was surprising that despite being grandson of B R Ambedkar he has aligned with a party like the AIMIM.
When asked about the electoral prospects of her father, Praniti said, "The BJP nominee has nothing to do with politics. He is just a religious figure whereas Ambedkar hails from Akola and not a local".
