A suspected case of Japanese fever (encephalitis) has been reported in the district for the first time, a government health official said here today.
"A seven-year-old girl is suspected to be suffering from Japanese fever (encephalitis) which has been in Indore district for the first time," Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP) In-charge G L Sodhi said.
"The suspected Japanese encephalitis patient has been admitted to the Government Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital's Child Care Department's intensive care unit, where she is in coma at present," he said.
The girl had complained about stomach pain on August 18, after which she was admitted to a private hospital which shifted her to M Y Hospital after her condition deteriorated, he said.
However, Sodhi said that it has not yet been confirmed that the victim is suffering from Japanese encephalitis and laboratory reports are being awaited.
