: The half eaten body of a calf, reportedly by a leopard in a human habitation near Bharathiar University here triggered panic among residents.
A tender coconut vendor had left the calf for grazing yesterday evening, after heavy rains that lashed the area and returned to find the dead calf with deep wounds, police said.
Forest department officials, who rushed to the spot along with police, suspect a leopard might have attacked the calf.
Residents of the area demanded that steps be taken to trap the feline as the area of attack was just a km away from the famous hill shrine of Maruthamalai, where tourists and devotees throng in large numbers, being holidays for educational institutions.
