A suspended police official was today sentenced to ten years in jail by a local court here for sodomising a 16-year-old in 2014.

Vilas Kaldhone was convicted and sentenced by Additional Session Judge MA Baraliya under section 377 (unnatural offences) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Public prosecutor Geeta Sharma said the victim, who had left home after an altercation, was standing by the road in King's Circle area when Kaldhone, who was under suspension from the police at the time, approached him.

Introducing himself as a police official, Kaldhone promised to take him home but instead took him to the terrace of a building in the vicinity and sodomised him, Sharma said.

A case was registered at Sion police station and 11 witnesses were examined by the court during the four-year long trial.
