The workers, after coming to know that they will not be getting the bonus announced by the central government, became agitated and ransacked the labour office, set fire to files and damaged the car of a deputy magistrate who had come to pacify the situation.
Officials said six trade unions held a scheduled meeting with the management but the the bonus issue of 2014-15 was not resolved in the meeting.
The workers then stopped work and resorted to violence. Besides damaging the labour office and files, stones were pelted on policemen and the car of a deputy magistrate was ransacked, officials said.
Later, the mill management declared suspension of work till further notice.
The police detained three persons in connection with the violence, officials said.
