Suu Kyi has said the elections cannot be fair unless the constitution is changed, and many were expecting her National League for Democracy to boycott the polls if the document was not amended.
But following a party meeting today, NLD spokesman Nyan Win said the party would contest the polls even if the constitution is not changed.
The 2008 constitution was drawn up under Myanmar's previous military regime to ensure its influence in government. The NLD considers it undemocratic because of clauses giving the military a mandatory allocation of 25 per cent of parliamentary seats and disqualifying Suu Kyi from running for president.
