The State Vigilance Commission has summoned the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Srinagar to appear personally before the panel in connection with the alleged irregularities in distribution of flood relief in the state's summer capital.
SVC has directed the SDM of Srinagar to appear personally before it on February 14 in connection with alleged large scale irregularities and corruption in distribution of flood relief by revenue officials in league with some private persons, a spokesperson of the commission said.
The commission had received a complaint from Hafeeza Bano of Kursoo, Padshahibagh, a widow, that her three-storied house was damaged by the floods in 2014 and she was entitled to relief.
But the revenue officials abused their official power to prepare a false list of flood victims to confer undue benefit to some other people. The list was then forwarded to higher authorities for approval, she had alleged.
Following the complaint, the SVC sought a detailed report from the Deputy Commissioner of Srinagar in light of allegations levelled.
The report prima facie revealed that revenue officials instead of making a proper and in-depth enquiry before making the list of flood victims and the real title and ownership of properties damaged in flood, merely relied upon superficial statements of some locals who mislead the officials in distribution of relief to undeserved families.
In light of the report, the SDM concerned has been summoned by the SVC.
