The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) has booked a former Station House Officer (SHO) for accepting a bribe from a gang rape victim to delete her nephew's name from the case after he falsely implicated him.
A case was registered against Mohammad Bashir, SHO of the Kalakote police station, following a complaint by the victim, a SVO spokesperson said.
According to the woman's complaint, she was allegedly gang raped in 2010 and had approached Bashir to lodge an FIR. However, he refused to take cognizance of her complaint.
Finally, an FIR was registered under section 376 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) after the victim moved court, but her nephew was implicated in the case, the spokesperson said.
Bashir and the Investigating Officer (IO) Mattu Khan, now dead, demanded Rs 50,000 from the victim to remove her nephew's name from the complaint, he said, adding that they finally settled for Rs 30,000.
During a verification by the SVO, it was found that the duo, in an abuse of their official position, had accepted an initial amount of Rs 10,000 from the victim, the spokesperson said.
A case has been registered and investigation is underway, he said.
