Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today 'Swachhta Hi Sewa' (Cleanliness is Service) is a "historic step" and that the sanitation drive is becoming a people's movement.
The minority affairs minister told reporters here that the Narendra Modi government had pledged to construct toilets in almost all madrassas and minority institutions.
Naqvi said his ministry was observing 'Swachhta Hi Sewa', a fortnight-long cleanliness campaign, in its all offices.
Cleanliness is no more just a matter of habit, it has become a passion and the people, particularly the youth, are getting attracted to the campaign, initiated by the prime minister, he said.
"It is a historic step and turning into a people's movement," he added.
Scores of BJP workers welcomed the minister to his native Rampur.
