The Ministries of Culture and Tourism will now be housed together in a swanky new complex to be constructed in the heart of the national capital, in a bid to bring in better coordination among the two.
"The Culture and Tourism Ministries will be together in the coming times. There are many linkages between the two ministries. There are discussions between the two ministries regarding various issues and projects. Hence, the move will lead to better coordination," Union Minister Mahesh Sharma, who holds both Culture and Tourism portfolios, said.
The Tourism Ministry offices would be "completely" placed in the new building which will also house the "main offices" of the Culture Ministry, he said.
"The purpose of the integration is to make both the ministries perform better and faster," Sharma said.
Union Minister Arun Jaitley had laid the foundation stone for the Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Paryatan Bhawan on Mandir Marg in the city last year. It was then decided that the complex would be the new office building of Tourism Ministry.
Spread over 10 acres, the building is being constructed within two acres and the remaining being green area. The construction is expected to be completed within next two years.
The National Building Construction Company (NBCC), formerly known as National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd, will execute the project.
At present, the Tourism and Culture ministries are spread across various buildings such as Transport Bhawan, Dalhousie Road, INA Colony, Tilak Marg, Shastri Bhawan and Central Secretariat library.
