International Master Swapnil Dhopade of Railways emerged champion with an all win score in the 9th edition of Siddha Chess for Youth Championship at Indian Council For Cultural Relations here today.
Needing only a draw to clinch the title, Swapnil kept his cool in a queen and rook versus queen and rook ending to emerge victorious after a long struggle.
For top seed, Debashis Das it was a bad outing as he finished 6th with a score of five points.
The find of the meet was clearly Sayan Bose of Bengal as he finished second on six points with a final round victory against Bhakti Kulkarni of Maharashtra.
Bhakti spurned a draw offer of Sayan early in the game only to end up with an untenable position and lost in 30-odd moves.
Sayan had earlier beaten both national champion WGM Mary Ann Gomes and WGM Kiran Monisha Mohanty.
