Stig Kernell had instructed his local funeral home in Tranas, southern Sweden to publish the advert on his death including the simple message, his name, place and date of death.
He felt that was all that needed to be said, his son Lars-Ake Kernell told the Swedish paper Expressen.
The aerospace historian and transport technician died on April 6. The unusual obituary was published on Saturday in Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet.
Kernell had a pilot's licence and had previously featured in the Guinness Book of World Records for his expansive collection of aviation literature.
Kernell's two sons then posted a lengthier obituary to tell the story of their father's life in a more traditional form.
