Parrikar said the age-old practise of selecting the teachers for state level awards should be changed.
"The current practise of selecting a best teacher is an age old concept. I thought that we can change the entire concept in which it is the student who will decide who is the best teacher," Parrikar said addressing state level function to mark Teachers' Day in Panaji.
The chief minister said the student will decide who is the best teacher.
Parrikar said "from next year onwards, I feel that the names should be shortlisted and then they will be proposed or recommended by the students who have passed out."

Stating that the government has taken up the issue of improving quality of education on priority, Parrikar said the state government will stress on education and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
"Swachh Bharat can be successful with education because the one who is educated will not throw garbage on the road. The one who throws garbage on the road is literate but not educated," he said.
"We have decided to imbibe civic sense amongst the students including traffic discipline," Parrikar said.
