T'gana govt mulls road development corporation

Telangana government is considering setting up a state road development corporation, a senior official said here today.
Speaking at a panel discussion on 'The Drivers of Growth: Infrastructure' here, Ajay Mishra, Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department, said Telangana state government has prepared a plan under which about Rs 10,000 crore will be spent on roads' renovation in all the 10 districts over the next few years.
Mishra, who holds the additional charge of Transport, Roads and Buildings Department, said, "Rs 10,000 crore in the next two-three years is not going to come up from 100 per cent budgeted provision."

"We are in the process of forming Telangana State Road Development Corporation. We have still not finalised...We are discussing on whether it will be (named) a corporation, board or a company...The (proposed) corporation will be raising money. The pure government funding constraints can be overcome by this (entity)," he added.
The official also said there will be private sector participation for some roads, whereas for some other roads, the government will take up the responsibility of full funding.
He said planning has started towards making ring roads in

four district headquarters--Warangal, Khammam, Nizamabad, Karimnagar besides Gajwel in the first phase for which Rs 1,500 crore will be earmarked.

Plans are afoot to widen a single lane road to two lanes from each mandal to district headquarters, for which Rs 2,500 crore will be earmarked, while roads on each district headquarters to Hyderabad will be made four-laned for which Rs 400 crore will be allocated, Mishra said.
According to Mishra, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, during a recent meeting, had asked the officials to build express highways (elevated corridors) in Hyderabad, on the lines of the PVNR Express Highway in the city, Mishra said.
V B Gadgil, Chief Executive and Managing Director, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) was also present during the panel discussion.
