The Delhi Environment Department today directed traffic police to take action against builders stocking construction material along roads in violation of dust control norms.
Environment Minister Imran Hussain directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to act against violators, including the builder and contractor, constructing the central verge at Madhuban Mother Diary Road where dust control measures are reportedly not being taken.
Hussain issued the directions during a meeting with nodal officers of departments and agencies implementing air pollution control measures including Transport, the civic bodies, DDA, DPCC and Traffic Police.
"The Minister opined that collection of challan money is secondary while ensuring compliance for air pollution control has to be the priority. He also directed Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to carry out random counterchecking of the inspection reports submitted by the nodal officers," an official statement said.
East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) was directed to ensure that punitive action as per law is taken against the violators especially those at landfill sites while the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) was asked to contain instances of burning "especially in the O zone area along the Yamuna Riverbed", it said.
Meanwhile, the city experienced moderate quality of air today, with the 24-hour-running average volume of ultrafine particulates PM 2.5 and PM 10 almost within the permissible standards.
