Take cleanliness drive in residential areas: Govt to employees

All Area Welfare Officers, who act as a link between the government and residents in colonies, will undertake cleanliness drive in their respective societies as part of the Narendra Modi government's 'Clean India' movement, the Centre said today.
The AWOs have been asked to coordinate with respective Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) under their jurisdictions to undertake the drive and awareness campaign, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said in an order.
All central government employees have already been asked to be present in their offices on October 2 to take cleanliness pledge as part of 'Swachh Bharat or Clean India' campaign, a mass movement aimed at cleaning the country.

October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is otherwise a national holiday.
The employees will be administered 'Swachhata Shapath' (pledge of cleanliness) in government offices, public functions and events on October 2, as per the directive issued by Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth to all central government secretaries.

Of a clean India by the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019.
"Each ministry should participate in this national endeavour and undertake cleanliness and awareness campaign in a befitting manner," the government has said.

The cleanliness drives led by senior officials will be undertaken in all government and public offices, it said.
