: Puthiya Tamizhakam today demanded that Tamil Nadu government take punitive action against those who indulged in violence and arson in Shesasamudram village in Villupuram District against Adi Dravidars.
Most families in the village had fled fearing their lives after the violence, in which 40 houses were torched, a temple car burnt and police themselves becoming target, PT president and MLA Dr K Krishnasamy told reporters here.
He demanded that cases be registered against perpetrators of the violence under Protection of Civil Rights and SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, since the incident was a gross violation of human rights, Krishnasamy said.
He also wanted the government to immediately bring to book the killers of one Durai Eswaran, who was murdered in Suthamalli in Tirunelveli district a week ago.
Alleging that caste violence had raised its head of late in Tamil Nadu, he claimed that there were 120 incidents of attacks on Dalits and downtrodden over the last one year.
On the reported objectionable comments against a particular community in the blockbuster Baahuballi, he said the party would resort to a massive protest against the film if the producers did not get the comments removed.
He said it was regrettable that the film continued to be screened despite a Supreme Court directive to delete such dialogues in movies.
On the over three week long indefinite strike by employees of public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation over wage revision, he said both the Centre and State governments should find an amicable solution to the issue.
