Maharashtra government has undertaken various schemes to desist farmers from committing suicides and give permanent relief to them, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said today.
"The results of this schemes would be visible in short time," Fadnavis said after distributing financial aid to families of 11 farmers who took the extreme step.
The aid was raised by Shree Ganeshtsava Mandal and Shree Mitra Mandal.
Stating that much money was otherwise spent on celebrating festivals, Fadnavis said that the Mandal spent little and donated the money thus saved to the families who needed it most.
Reiterating that the condition of the farmers was not much better in the state, the Chief Minister said several decisions have been taken by the state to give them relief.
"There are no adequate facilities for irrigation. Successive droughts for last four years have affected their economy. In such a situation, to pull them out of financial crisis, it is essential to provide them irrigation," he added.

"Marathi people (who are) enriching the world have a great opportunity in various fields in Maharashtra. The doors of the state are always open for such people. With the help of these people, the state will also flourish in future," he said.
Observing that Marathi people are "flying high" in every field, the CM said their success has made Maharashtrians feel proud.
In his speech, Fadnavis said such meets unfold the thoughts of people who climbed their way up from the bottom.

"The percentage of Marathi people is more among such people. Marathi man is working with distinction in many a fields in the world and Maharashtra is proud of them," he added.
Former Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said the World Marathi Academy was doing a great job by keeping the Marathi people united and guiding them.
"Such meets are like movements that should go on for the benefit of Maharashtra," Shinde added.
Politicians, including district guardian minister Pravin Pote, state Home minister Ranjit Patil and Marathi Academy chairman Ramdas Futane were present on the dais among others.
