Talks with HPC(D) tomorrow

Six members of militant
organisation, Hmar People's Convention (Democratic), arrived here today to participate in talks with the Mizoram government, home department officials said.
The members, led by Lalthaliana of Manipur, were lodged at the Tourist Lodge at Chaltlang here where the talks would begin tomorrow.
Other delegation members are former President of Hmar Inpui in Manipur John Pulamte, President of the Hmar Students Association (HSA) Lalthlamuana Hmar, Francis Songate, Rohringa and Thanglianchhunga.
The state government delegation, which will headed by Additional Secretary for Home Lalbiakzama, also have Joint Secretary for Home Lalhriatpuia, SP, CID (SB) Rodingliana Chawngthu and OSD (Home) David H Lalthangliana.
Formed soon after the Mizoram government and the HPC signed an agreement in 1994, the HPC(D) has been involved in various violent and illegal activities in the state from across the border.
The outfit has been demanding a separate autonomous district council under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution by carving out the areas adjoining Manipur.
