Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Q3 net soars 2-fold

State government owned Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers has reported over two-fold jump in profit after tax to Rs 36.89 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2013.
The company had registered PAT at Rs 17.91 crore during the corresponding period of the previous year, the company said in a BSE filing.
Total income from operations for the third quarter of FY14 grew to Rs 594.01 crore from Rs 472.32 crore registered during the same period of the previous year.
During the quarter under review, TNPL produced 1,00,969 tonne of papers against 93,199 tonne registered during the same period of the previous year.
The company has commissioned the revamping of steam and power project in January 2014 at a capital outlay of Rs 167 crore, it said.
After meeting the entire requirement of power, 7 MW of surplus power would be exported to the state government electricity board -- TANGEDCO, a statement said.
The Wet Ground Calcium Carbonate (WGCC) plant put up by OMYA, Switzerland on BOO basis commenced production on January 12, 2014.
"The plant produces 100MT of wet calcium carbonate per day and the entire production is consumed by TNPL," it added.
