Tanker swept away in river

A milk tanker and a driver were swept away in swirling waters of the Pangoli river on KamthaAmgaon Road in Gondiya district of east Maharashtra, police said today.

The incident occurred last night when Gautam Patil (48) tried to cross the bridge on the river, which is is full spate due to heavy rains, in the tanker, police said.

Despite being warned by locals not to proceed, Patil drove on resulting into the mishap.

The tanker was found 2 kms away from the spot of the accident, a police official said, adding that Patil remained untraced.

District Disaster Management Officer Rajan Choubey said a 25-member team of the SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) reached Gondiya today and will start search operation tomorrow morning.
