Tannery worker Mukesh (23), a resident of the Chakeri area, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself yesterday at his home, police said.

The deceased had been left without a source of income due to the ban on production at tanneries in view of the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Allahabad, which might have pushed him to take the extreme step, they said.

In another incident, 20-year-old Vandana, a BA final year student reportedly hung herself at her residence following some dispute with her family members, police said.

Priyanka (17) allegedly set herself ablaze following a scolding from her family members, they said.

She was rushed to a private hospital where she succumbed during treatment, they said.

Twenty-one-year old Shruti, of Laxmi Purwa, was the fourth suicide reported yesterday with her family members alleging that a quarrel with a neighbour prompted her to end her life.
