The actress, who is best known for her role opposite Hugh Jackman in 'The Wolverine', will play the mysterious Lady Murasaki in the NBC drama's third season, reported Deadline.
"It is a dark and mysterious character, possessing an alluring and classic beauty with a dark secret."
Introduced in Thomas Harris's third Hannibal Lecter novel Hannibal Rising, Murasaki is Lecter's aunt, with whom he lived as a teenager after being removed from an orphanage.
Season three will find Hannibal on the run with Bedelia (Gillian Anderson) in Europe, following the bloodbath in season two's finale which left the fates of Will (Hugh Dancy), Alana (Caroline Dhavernas), Jack (Laurence Fishburne) and Abigail (Kacey Rohl) up in the air.
