Senior BJP leader Tarun Vijay today lauded the students for their success in getting a law enacted to hold Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu, despite alleged attempts by anti-social elements to exploit the situation.
"Like Mahatma Gandhi, the students have created history and revived Jallikattu, the traditional and cultural identity of Tamils," Vijay told reporters here.
Jallikattu is now no more Tamil Nadu's festival. It is a festival of India, he said, adding it was unfortunate that police used force against the students.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi should also be given credit for solving the issue, as he had promised to stand by Tamil Nadu for the same and he stood for Tamil culture and heritage, he said.
"In the last two years, the Modi government has taken enormous efforts to protect the Tamil culture.
"Thirukkural was sung for the first time in the Parliament. It was taken to Rashtrapathi Bhavan. Moreover, the statue of Saint Poet, Tiruvalluvar was installed at Haridwar," Vijay added.
