Tata Cummins, a joint venture between Cummins and Tata Motors, today announced the opening of its third manufacturing facility for producing diesel engines at Phaltan in Maharashtra.
"The facility was inaugurated by Tom Linebarger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Cummins and Anant J Talaulicar, Managing Director, Cummins Group in India," the two companies said in a joint statement.
The new plant will cater to the global power generation, industrial and automotive markets. The plant will produce diesel engines.
This is the third manufacturing plant of Tata Cummins in India, the first being at Jamshedpur in 1995, followed by a second plant that was set up at the Megasite in Phaltan in 2011.
"Despite the economic slowdown, we have continued to make significant investment in technologies and infrastructure that are critical for our future success," Tom Linebarger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Cummins said in the statement.
"We are confident that our new facility will not only further consolidate our position in the segments we serve but also contribute in generating further employment for the local communities in and around Phaltan," said Anant J Talaulicar, Managing Director, Cummins Group in India.
The machining lines at the new plant will initially produce 15,000 L series engines per year. The plant is designed to eventually produce 45,000 and 1,20,000 units of the L and B series engines respectively, when operating at full capacity, it added.
Tata Cummins Limited is a 50:50 joint venture between Cummins Inc. USA and Tata Motors.
