The scheme has been launched by TPDDL in association with leading manufacturers Godrej and Panasonic.
Under the scheme, the TPDDL consumers will be able to buy Bureau of Energy Efficiency labelled four and five star air conditioners and refrigerators at a discount price in exchange of their old non-star labeled appliances, said a spokesperson of the discom.
This scheme is being managed by ICF International with technical assistance and funding from the British High Commission.
The discount on air conditioners would be 15 per cent and on refrigerators it would be 22 per cent on.
"The scheme is a unique endeavour, where for the first time old appliances collected through the exchange will be disposed off in an environment friendly manner through associations with e-waste recycling agencies," the spokesman said.
The scheme is valid till July 15, 2012 at selected outlets of Godrej and Panasonic in North and North West Delhi.
"The 4 & 5 star rated energy efficient appliances, as approved by BEE, help save energy. We are confident that our consumers will not only benefit from this scheme but also actively contribute in combating climate change by opting for energy efficient appliances," he said
