As sports lovers of Odisha pin their hopes on the young sprinter Amiya Mallick while he prepares to travel to Jamaica to train under Usain Bolt's coach Glen Mills, Tata Steel is facilitating his training.
The steel major has provided Mallick air tickets and imported sports kit with latest sporting gears, a Tata release said today.
21-year-old Mallick will take training at Mills' Academy -- the Racers Track Club in Jamaica for four months, starting January 14.
Mallick, who won the men's 200m in National Open Athletics Championships held at Ranchi last September, said that he was aiming to give his best in 2014 Commonwealth and Asian Games.
At a function here yesterday, Arun Misra, Deputy Vice President (Operations), Kalinganagar Project, Tata Steel and Suresh Chandra Mohapatra, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Water Resources Department, Government of Odisha, handed over the air tickets and sports kit to the young sprinter, it said.
