Maharashtra NCP president Sunil Tatkare today termed as "serious" and "unfortunate" the clash between the supporters of party leaders Nawab Malik and Sanjay Dina Patil during a meeting here.
Tatkare told reporters that spoke to both the leaders over phone and was also verifying yesterday's incident independently from the party workers present there.
He said both the leaders had put forth their stand and versions before him. Tatkare said the issue was "serious and unfortunate".
"I will jointly speak to them again to resolve the issue. They had differences over appointment of block presidents. I will talk to them again and try to resolve the matter. This is an internal issue of the party and appropriate decision will be taken after meeting both the leaders," he said.
Malik is the party spokesman and former MLA from Anushakti Nagar here while Patil is the North East Mumbai district president.
Meanwhile, four persons were arrested in connection with the incident while five are still at large, police said.

The members from the two rival groups of NCP had yesterday clashed during a meet at Deonar and some of them reportedly brandished weapons, police said.
The altercation broke out after supporters of Malik and Patil, a former Lok Sabha MP from Mumbai, began shouting slogans against each other, police said.
Late in the night, supporters of both the NCP leaders gathered outside Deonar Police Station.
Malik alleged that Patil resorted to firing at the event and he was "injured" in attack by sword-wielding supporters of the latter.

The NCP has sought clarification from Malik and Patil over the incident.
"The incident in which both leaders claimed that they were physically attacked has been referred to the disciplinary committee of the party, headed by senior leader Praful Patel," Tatkare said.
He said Patel has sought immediate clarification from both Malik and Patil.
"Further action will be taken after their clarification is received," the state unit NCP chief added.
