Tax exemption for motor vehicles used by certain authorities

Haryana will provide tax exemption on motor vehicles used by certain departments of Central and State governments.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of transport department said total exemption from payment of tax has been granted to motor vehicles owned and kept for use by departments of the Central or the state government provided this exemption shall not apply to motor vehicles belonging to the Indian railway or Haryana roadways, operating for a commercial purpose.
He said that total exemption has also been granted to motor vehicles owned and kept for use by any local authority situated within Haryana.
Similarly, total exemption has been granted to motor vehicles of a foreign country operating under section 139 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 provided a provision for such exemption is made by the Central Government in the relevant reciprocal agreement with such foreign country.
Spokesman said exemption from tax has also been granted to motor vehicles owned by educational institutions or other private persons for carrying students to schools or colleges or educational institutions; aside cars drawn by a two-wheeler
And invalid carriages.
The spokesman said that motor vehicles owned by persons with hundred per cent disability would get rebate in tax subject to a maximum of Rs 36,000.
