Income Tax Ombudsman of eastern region has achieved a success rate of around 80 per cent in resolving complaints it receives, a top official said here today.
"We get around 400 complaints per month and we are able to resolve around 80 per cent successfully," Income Tax Ombudsman (East) K K Mohapatra said here today at an interactive session with Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"About 5-10 per cent of the complaints are imaginary and not sustainable. In very old cases records are not available and such things makes things difficult in resolving a complaint," Mohapatra said.
Ombudsman handles Income tax related complaints, including tax refunds. About 80 per cent of the complaints are refund related problems.
The Ombudsman office is not yet computerised and are not able to access to the tax return records and had to depend on the respective Assessing officer to provide the same causing some delay in resolving complaints.
