An inquiry has been ordered into allegations that a TB patient died at a government hospital here after two ward boys refused him oxygen for want of Rs 150 as bribe.
Responding to the concern expressed by BJP member NVSS Prabhakar during Zero Hour in Telangana Legislative Assembly, the Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said Health Minister C Laxma Reddy has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Two ward boys of the TB and Chest Hospital were suspended on March 14 for allegedly demanding bribe from the family members of a tuberculosis patient, who died during treatment the previous night.
The family members of the patient, who was in his mid-30s, alleged the ward boys and other hospital staff demanded money to provide oxygen to him after he was admitted there on March 13.
The kin of the deceased had held a protest on the hospital premises on Monday night, alleging the ward boys had demanded Rs 150 for oxygen and that neither doctors nor any nurse attended the patient.
They had lodged a complaint with the hospital authorities in this connection.
The hospital superintendent Dr Sai Kumar had refuted the allegations of negligence by hospital staff.
He had appointed an inquiry committee which will look into the whole matter.
