The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) urged the Legislative Assembly Speaker here today to take action against TDP MLAs who allegedly defected to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), based on a petition for their disqualification.
"We brought the issue of the MLAs' disqualification to your notice on a number of occasions, but so far you have not made any decision in this regard," a representation given to Speaker S Madhusudanachary by Telangana-based TDP leaders said.
Five TDP MLAs had "defected" to the TRS, the memorandum said, adding that one of them named T Srinivas Yadav even became a minister.
TDP's floor leader in the assembly E Dayakar Rao and 13 other party leaders were taken into preventive custody yesterday after they held a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan here.
"Fourteen persons, including Rao, were taken into preventive custody for staging a protest near the Raj Bhavan," police said yesterday.
Rao and other party leaders met Governor ESL Narasimhan and then held a protest meeting demanding the resignation of Srinivas Yadav.
Yadav said yesterday that he had submitted his resignation as MLA long ago and is ready to face the polls.
