Teacher's death: NCW begins probe; Cong, BJP want Naveen to go

The National Commission for Women (NCW) today started its probe into the molestation and murder of a teacher while opposition Congress and BJP demanded that the case be handed over to CBI for an impartial probe.
The teacher was allegedly set on fire on October 27 after she refused to withdraw an FIR against her senior whom she accused of molestation. The 36-year-old woman sustained 90 per cent burns and died at a Visakhapatnam hospital on November 1.
An NCW team of Hemalata Kheria and Mansai Pradhan visited the victim's house near Delang in Puri district and talked to her family members.

The team will tomorrow visit the school in Raygada district where she worked. It is also likely to meet several officials and examine a video footage of the teacher.
Police arrested the dismissed school sub-inspector Netrananda Dandsena on October 30 and the government has also dismissed three other persons including two police officers.
Meanwhile, Congress and BJP demanded resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and handing over the case to the CBI.

While the Mahila Congress took out a rally at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg here, BJP staged a dharna before Raj Bhawan, holding the state government responsible for the incident.

PCC president Jaydev Jena claimed that the teacher had blamed the CM and the administration for her death in her dying declaration.
"So, under section 32 of the Evidence Act, the CM should be charge sheeted. He should also tender his resignation immediately and come out clean," Jena said.
"The murder has exposed the incapability, insensitivity and callousness of the government," state BJP president KV Singhdeo said in a memorandum submitted to Governor SC Jamir.
Demanding a CBI probe into the case, Singhdeo urged the Governor to issue directions to the state government to take action against all officers who failed to protect the teacher's life.
