A teacher can help keep alive the hopes of the youth and future generations that things can be resolved in a democracy, HRD Minister Smriti Irani said while inaugurating a programme in Parliament today.
"There are many challenges in a democracy. But a teacher can help keep alive the hopes of the youth and future generations that issues can be resolved in a democracy," she said while inaugurating an appreciation course in Parliamentary processes for teachers of universities and colleges.
The minister said the government intends to hold 'Bal Sabhas' in schools soon and such attempts are being made in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh.
"Our attempt will be to start 'Bal Sabhas' in schools from this year," she said, adding it is an effort that will help children manage their own classes.
The minister said a teacher acts as a bond between the students and the institution and can help resolve their issues.
She also asked the teachers to find solutions through dialogue and said many issues confronting the society have been resolved through discussions in Parliament. In this regard, she said the Question Hour is very important where crucial issues are raised.

Irani said it was after 30 years that the government was formulating a new education policy through dialogue with the public and teachers have been asked to give their views for the first time.
Professors, associate professors and assistant professors from universities and colleges from across the country participated in the programme that will end on May 6.
