A team of students and teachers of the Delhi University's social work department are camping at Tihar jail complex to find new avenues of rehabilitation and social integration for inmates released from the prison.
The team of 35 postgraduate students and four teachers today started their four-day residential camp at the jail premises.
"The objective of this camp is to find out new avenues of reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates with the society," a statement issued from the office of Director General(Prisons) Sudhir Yadav said.
The team will impart soft skills training to the jail staff, especially the warders so that they can conduct themselves better with inmates as well as outsiders.
It will also conduct a need-based assessment of inmates and identify their individual, social, psychological and collective needs in the prison.
According to the statement, the requirement of mapping the needs of inmates, understanding and analysing the existing reformative services in the prison was felt by the jail authorities.

It was also felt that a framework for reintegration services for the inmates has to be developed as inmates, when they to go back to their family, face a stigma, it said.
An important aspect of the study will be identifying vulnerable and excluded groups in the jail and offer ideas for their reformation and inclusion with other inmates.
The team will also try to gain an insight into the criminal justice system of the country and compare it with international standards, the statement said.
