Team of experts to be set up to plan Red Fort's conservation

A team of historians, archaeologists, architects, subject experts and town planners would be formed to prepare a plan to restore and conserve the Red Fort complex as per the conservation norms and ethics.
This was decided at a two-day workshop organized by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Conservation and Management of Red Fort complex. Indian and foreign experts attended the workshop.
The experts visited the Red Fort, a World Heritage Monument, where D Dayalan, Director (monument) ASI, presented vision and priorities for conservation - a step-by-step recommendation and outcome of workshop and implementation of the conservation and management plan.
He suggested management plan for water system, garden and maintain original levels of Mughal period, up-gradation of existing museums, proper utilisation of buildings vacated by the army, conservation work of jali, painting, re-plastering, inlay work.
Jhanwij Sharma, AIS Director (conservation), has introduced the 15-point programme for recommendations for a draft conservation and management plan, which include documentation, ASI conservation plan, establishment of core-committee, revival of old water system, garden, pathways, re-examine the changes, auxiliary building to be used for museums and other purposes.
Foreign and Indian experts, including Prof Ebba Koch, Prof James Wescoat Jr, Prof M H Talebian, Dr Ali Akbar, Prof R J Vasavda, Prof Sunil Kumar, Gurmeet Rai, P B S Sengar and DDA officials raised some important points and discussed thoroughly conservation norms and ethics necessary for a management plan.
Praveen Kumar Srivastava, Director General, ASI, said a final draft of recommendation for the conservation and management plan would be submitted to the Culture Ministry after incorporating suggestions and plan it in a broader aspects.
