Techie held for extorting Rs 1.50 lakh from woman

A 38-year-old software engineer was arrested here today for allegedly extorting Rs 1.50 lakh from a 27-year-old woman after threatening to post her "obscene" pictures on social networking sites, police said.
Shailesh Salajkar was apprehended from Rabodi area on the charges of extortion and blackmailing the woman who was reportedly in a relationship with him, they said.
According to the complaint lodged by the woman, she became a friend with Salajkar in 2009 and the duo soon entered into a relationship.
Police said the accused on the pretext of marrying the woman shot her obscene pictures and started demanding money to keep things under the wraps.
The father of the accused was also allegedly involved in extortion and is currently on the run, police said.
The father-son duo had allegedly demanded Rs 4 lakh from the woman who has so far shelled out nearly Rs 1.50 lakh, they added.
The accused has been charged under sections 384 (punishment for extortion), 385 (putting a person in fear of injury in order), 417 (punishment for cheating) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the IPC, police said.
Rabodi police investigating the case said no money has been recovered from the accused yet.
