Teen driver mows down 74-yr-old man, injures two cops

Sampath Maru (74) was knocked down by a Honda car being driven by 17-year-old Yash Bora near Samrat hotel, police said, adding the teenager was heading towards K C College along with his friend accompanying him in the car.

According to police, Bora, a student of Jai Hind college, was driving the vehicle at 80 kmph and lost control of it and hit Maru, who was on a morning walk.

Shocked after the incident, Bora suddenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, hitting other vehicles and two constables, who were on their way to attend duty.

While one constable was discharged with minor injuries, another constable, identified as Yogesh Najia, was admitted to Bombay hospital.

The car has been seized and the youth has been booked for rash and negligent driving, police said, adding he will be subjected to a medical test to ascertain if he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
