A teenage girl here has been rescued from getting married to a 24-year-old youth and received support from Jharkhand Commission for Protection of Child Rights to further her studies.
"The 15-year-old girl, who hails from Bano in Simdega, was rescued from a place in Ranchi just before getting married to the youth yesterday," District Child Protection Officer Ram Sevak Ram told PTI today.
He said marriage rituals were underway when the raiding party went there.
"Presently, the girl is at a shelter home," he said.
"Bano Block Development Officer, two police officials and the warden of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya visited the place today and the BDO recorded the statement of the girl," Ram added.
Stating that an FIR has not yet been filed, Ram said the BDO has directed Bano police station to probe the matter and file a case against the accused involved in the "child marriage" incident.
He said the girl has completed class X and desires to study further.
Sanjay Mishra, member of Jharkhand Commission for Protection of Child Rights, said the commission has ordered for sanction of construction of a well under MG-NREGA and pension under a state government's pension scheme to her family, besides assuring her to pursue her studies.
