A 19-year-old youth has been arrested for allegedly hatching a plan to extort money from a reputed doctor posing as underworld don, police said today.
The Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested the youth identified as Dheeraj Bhardwaj, a resident of Najafgarh, last night after laying a trap, they said.
According to police, Bharadwaj had on May 19 demanded Rs 10 lakh from a specialist doctor, who had treated him, and threatened him of eliminating him and his family members, if he didn't pay the money.
"He was inspired by a South Indian film in which an actor, posing as underworld don, extorts money from victims after sending the photographs of his family and threating to kill them.
"Bharadwaj also used this modus operandi and tried to extort money from victim doctor by posing himself as underworld Don "Salim"," said a senior police officer.
He had identified the specialist doctor as his potential victim during his visit to a hospital for treatment.
