A 16-year-old youth has alleged that he was attacked by two unidentified men here but the police refused to file a case in the matter, citing lack of evidence.
Purje Soni alleged that the incident occurred in Sector 19 here last night when two men standing near a car called him towards themselves.
"When I went up to them, the two started beating me mercilessly and also tried to run me over with their car," he alleged.
Purje suffered injuries on his face and head.
His mother, Neena, went to the police station with a complaint today which, she claimed, the police did not accept for a want of "evidence".
"I apprised the police official about the entire sequence of events...But he said that without any evidence how can they lodge an FIR," she said.

"The same assailants hit an iron rod at a car in the housing board locality later," Neena claimed.
The teenager's father Murli Dhar Soni, who is blind and a government school teacher, alleged that their attempts to get justice from the police were futile.
Purje said that he was "terrified" by the events.
"One of the assailant had a beard...I was thrashed with an iron rod without any reason," he alleged.
On being contacted, police official Ishwar Singh said that the family does not have any proof on the basis of which they could lodge an FIR.
However, the police assured that they would step up patrolling in the area.
