The state police today charged Tejpal with rape, sexual harassment and outraging modesty of a woman journalist in a lift of a five-star hotel here in November last year.
Special public prosecutor will be asked to request trial judge to hold the hearing in the case on a day-to-day basis, Deputy Inspector General of Police O P Mishra told reporters here today.
"Under the amended IPC section 309, we are going to request the special public prosecutor to request the trial judge to conduct the trial on day-to-day basis. If this happens, the trial will complete within 60 days of the filing of charge sheet," he said.
Several members of public also assisted the investigation, Mishra said.
Police has charged Tejpal under IPC sections 354, 354(A) (sexual harassment), 341, 342, 376 (rape), 376 (2) (F) and 376 (2)(k) (takes advantage of his official position and commits rape on a woman in his custody) for allegedly raping his junior woman colleague twice in a hotel lift on November 7-8 last year.
