Telangana bill could derail last session of 15th Lok Sabha
Press Trust of India New Delhi The last session of 15th Lok Sabha beginning on Wednesday is all set to be stormy with the government planning to take up the controversial Telangana bill while Opposition parties want focus mainly on passage of interim Budget.
Government managers are weary whether any legislative business barring the Vote on Account could be passed in the session with the Opposition parties, the Left and the Right, up in arms over its strategy.
A meeting of Congress leaders convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath today saw the BJP as also the Left parties accusing it of not creating atmosphere conducive for the passage of the bills, especially the Telangana bill.
Andhra Pradesh is sharply divided on regional line on the Telangana bill, set to be introduced in this session despite rejection by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and MPs from Seemandhra, including those from Congress, have made clear their intent to oppose it tooth and nail.
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj alleged that the government was itself to blame for any disruptions as a section of Congress members were themselves up against the Telangana bill.
Similar is the contention of Left members with Sitaram Yechury accusing the government of not preparing any strategy on Telangana so as to avoid disruptions.
Government sources said that NDA acting chairman L K Advani as also Swaraj told Finance Minister P Chidambaram to come with the Vote on Account at the earliest, expressing apprehensions over the smooth conduct of Parliament.
