Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao directed officials today, to look into the issue of setting up more distilleries in the state while holding a review meeting on issues related to the excise department.
He said that since liquor of many brands being sold in Telangana is obtained from other states, Telangana is deprived of different taxes and added that the number of distilleries in the state should be commensurate with local demand, a release issued by the CM's office said.
This would earn more taxes for the Telangana state government, promote employment opportunities as well as reduce prices for consumers to some extent, he said.
He asked officials to obtain details of companies which have not set up distilleries in the state though they do business in Telangana, the release said.
He also sought a report on checking the sale of illicit liquor in the state, the release said.
